(NAPSI) — As people settle into their back-to-school routine, Tom Holland, exercise physiologist, certified sports nutrition expert and Bowflex fitness advisor, explains that you shouldn’t let the change of season cause you to slip in other areas — particularly fitness routines. and wellness.
Holland says that by implementing diverse workouts, you can create exercise habits that work across seasons to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle. Here are some Dutch tips for achieving your year-round fitness goals:
How to create a varied workout at home in any season
• Seasonal change is a reminder to switch up your routine–A recent YouGov survey* found that 26% of US adults have not changed their home exercise in the past year – which is not good. The Netherlands encourages people to “think of winter as ‘out of season’, the time when you work to address your weaknesses, so that you can maximize your enjoyment of outdoor activities when the weather warms up again.” This switch can activate inactive muscles to create a more comprehensive fitness program.
JRNY, an adaptive fitness membership, offers coach-led training for Bowflex’s cardio and strength products as well as full-body exercises including yoga, Pilates, stretching, abdominals, and more – making it easy to achieve a purposeful workout. Holland recommends that “instead of spending quality time with a good book on the couch, you should spend more time enjoying your favorite program while doing a great winter cardio with the JRNY app.”
• Timing is not necessarily everything–According to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only a quarter of adults meet the physical activity guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities. It also found that health benefits occur with at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity. However, according to a YouGov poll*, 41% of adults believe that exercise should last 30-45 minutes to be meaningful – which is not entirely true.
While time is important, Holland suggests you “think about working out as a group weekly. By doing smaller bouts of exercise, you can still reap the health benefits – even if you spread them out throughout the week.”
For example, the Bowflex BXT8J treadmill is JRNY compatible and offers the ability to complete instructor-led sprints at speeds of up to 12 mph or walk longer distances on an automated 15% incline, providing a variety of workouts for however long you can run out. So a combination of short intervals and long, occasional exercise can create a beneficial fitness practice.
• Work hard, rest more–You’ve probably heard the saying “work hard, play hard,” and while it’s good in theory, it’s less realistic in practice. Holland explains that your body needs time to rest, so not every rep has to be harder than the last. In fact, it’s a good idea to have lighter days before you push your limits the next day.
Holland says, “That’s why adjustable equipment like the Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells is so great. It lets you enhance your personal best while still giving you access to lower weights in one compact design, so you can change up your workout routine at the turn of a disc “.
Regardless of the season, creating a beneficial exercise regimen can be challenging. However, by implementing new exercises, you can exercise different muscles and prevent fatigue by giving your brain something new to experience and enjoy.
So you may decide not to get too comfortable this fall; It’s a good time to continue following healthy exercise habits.
